Our complete line of SW & MHI 501F parts have been redesigned where necessary to address
the life-limiting elements of existing designs.  Our hot gas path components utilize advanced
materials, coatings, cooling schemes, and design features to maximize durability and reliability.
We upgrade components following our proven design approach.

  • Use state-of-the-art analysis tools, metallurgical evaluations, and engine test data where
    possible to determine the root cause of the issues/failures

AutoTune

Automated GT Combustion Tuning
PSM’s AutoTune system enables automated combustion tuning to maintain emissions and combustion dynamics within specified limits under varying ambient conditions (temperature and humidity), engine deterioration or while using a range of natural gas or liquefied natural gas.

Optimize Unit Operation
The AutoTune system incorporates features which result in optimal operation from a power and heat rate standpoint. The result is improved emissions control, hardware life, reliability and operability.

Optional Software Components
Fuel gas temperature optimization, Power+ for maximum power, and optimization for LNG are all options for allowing optimal power and increasing hardware life.

Performance Upgrades with GTOP6

PSM’s 501F GTOP6 Upgrade Package offerings optimize critical performance variables to improve operation and life cycle maintenance costs.

Existing gas turbine power generation operators face multiple challenges to their future viability, including the increasing presence of renewables and distributed generation.  At the same time, coal retirements are being accelerated while new generation is costly and slow to come online.  This highlights the need for generating companies to maximize the capacity, efficiency, and flexibility of their existing assets.  For 501F customers, PSM has developed the Gas Turbine Optimization Packages – which offer customized options for output, heat rate improvement, interval extension, and operational flexibility.

What is included in the GTOP package from PSM
• GT output improvement up to 9% of baseload, efficiency improvement up to 1.6% for 2x1 combined cycle, and interval extension to a combined 32K CI/HGP
• Incremental upgrade packages allowing tailored solutions to meet your economic goals with compatibiity to future improvements
• Plant Assessment to evaluate the performance impact of the GTOP upgrade on your entire plant
• No exhaust scope required as part of upgrade package.  However, PSM’s 501F Exhaust Cylinder and Manifold solution available
• Turn Down capability of PSM combustor demonstrated to be superior to OEM parts.  Users can expect a 5-10% improvement within emissions compliance
• Compatibility with OEM hardware on a set-wise basis for non-GTOP components. This enables customers to complete a phased implementation of GTOP upgrade packages and realize the full value of their part purchases

501F Inlet Bleed Heat System (IBH)

PSM’s IBH system addresses the issue of ice or snow buildup on the inlet filters and compressor, which can lead to damage of the filter components and compressor.  The IBH system can also provide increased turndown flexibility allowing emissions compliance at lower levels.

  • Anti-icing system protects compressor airfoils against ice formation
  • Protects inlet filters against ice and snow accumulation
  • Alarm system warns of ice formation conditions in compressor
  • Warns of ice and snow accumulation on inlet air filters

PSM’s system puts air in front of the filters, diverting high pressure air from the turbine and injecting it upstream for full inlet system ice protection.
